Food Insecurity

Family Support Services offer essential resources to those in need within the community, including emergency financial assistance, support for food insecurity, mental health services, and more. Serving over 350 families annually, JFS has become a vital support system for families in the Greenwich area.

JFS’ Family Farm Stand opens on Tuesday mornings, offers a wide range of supplemental foods, including dairy, produce, grains, and prepared meals. This program, fully supported through private contributions, exclusively serves under-resourced Greenwich families.

In partnership with Food Rescue, Meals on Main, and the Friendly Fridge Network JFS has been working diligently to help address food insecurity among public school students. Local food stores and restaurants contribute surplus meals, which would have otherwise been discarded, by flash freezing them. These meals are then delivered to multiple schools across Greenwich and Stamford. A refrigerator or freezer is placed in each school, allowing students to access and microwave these nutritious meals after school, or take them home nightly or for the weekend. This initiative ensures that no child will go hungry, and can enjoy a healthy, nutritious meal at no cost to their family.  The program currently serves 450 students.
