Refugee Resettlement

JFS of Greenwich is a proud affiliate of HIAS and one of only three refugee resettlement agencies in Connecticut. Our comprehensive resettlement services have received widespread recognition for our response to the ongoing crises in Ukraine and Israel, the unrest in Haiti, Cuba, and South American countries like Guatemala, Nicaragua, and Venezuela at both local and national levels.

In addition to addressing the immediate needs of refugee families, JFS of Greenwich places strong emphasis on the well-being, social integration, and academic development of their children. Many of them have experienced significant trauma from fleeing their homes, leaving behind their communities and familiar environments. Upon arrival, they faced the challenges of adjusting to a new country, learning a new language, and making new friends. JFS of Greenwich is committed to going beyond what is provided to ensure these children are supported in their journey of healing and integration. Our efforts, which include innovative wraparound therapeutic services, have been highlighted for their effectiveness in supporting displaced adults and children.

Refugee Resettlment

JFS of Greenwich provides critical services such as English as a Second Language (ESL) opportunities, school enrollment assistance, medical and benefits assistance, and behavioral health support to help children succeed in their new environment. In addition, we offer a variety of extracurricular activities designed to foster socialization and positive experiences.

To further support the children’s development, JFS of Greenwich also pairs children with youth volunteer mentors who serve as “buddies.” This connection supports age-appropriate socialization, language skills development and in the end a new friend. During the summer, our partner, Greenwich Country Day School, sponsors a two-week program at the French Farm in Greenwich. Children ages 4-14 participate in typical day camp recreation including arts and crafts, sports and games, gardening, learning about animals, and cultural exchange activities.
