What inspired you to become a social worker?

After working for over 15 years in more business-oriented, transactional career spaces, I ultimately decided that to feel more connected to—and inspired by—my work, I needed to make a change. After significant soul-searching and conversations with people I trust, I landed on the path of social work. I was drawn to the opportunity to engage in meaningful, person-centered work, where relationships and human connection were the driving forces of the work.

Can you share a memorable experience or moment from your career that made you proud to be a social worker?

As part of a few truly impactful organizations, I’ve been fortunate to work alongside inspiring colleagues in the field of social work. Some of the most powerful moments have been witnessing resilience in clients who, despite overwhelming hardship, continue to push forward. Having the opportunity to show up for children and caregivers in times of significant need has been deeply meaningful.

What are some of the most rewarding aspects of your work with JFS clients?

In my role at JFS, I’ve had the opportunity to work with clients across a wide range of needs and experiences. The most rewarding aspect of this work is being able to create a space where people feel truly heard—sometimes sharing things they’ve never spoken aloud before. There is something incredibly powerful about providing an emotionally safe and supportive environment where someone can begin to process their story with honesty and vulnerability.

As we celebrate Social Work Month, what message would you like to share with the community about the importance of social workers?

Social workers are some of the many unsung heroes of our communities—found in schools, community centers, hospitals, and beyond. They step into the lives of some of the most vulnerable and marginalized people, often providing critical support where it’s needed most. Social work is not just about addressing crises; it’s about fostering resilience, empowering individuals, and helping to build stronger, more compassionate communities.

"At its core, social work is about human connection—about showing up, listening, and believing in people’s capacity for change. It’s not about having all the answers; it’s about walking alongside someone as they find their own."
